Kiermasz wigilia miejskaOn Sunday, December 18th 2022, an event called "City Christmas Eve. Nisko from the kitchen." This is the second thematic event that is part of the project "The heart of the city must beat – revival of the urban market and promotion of local companies", implemented as part of the project "Nisko Higher and Higher – increasing the economic potential of the city and the competitiveness of life in the city", co-financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the years 2014-2021.

The event began with the handing over of the Bethlehem Light of Peace. The light, which is a symbol of peace, hope and reconciliation between nations, came to our town thanks to the scouts of the ZHP Grey Ranks Troop in Nisko. They were received from the hands of scouts by the Mayor of the Commune and City of Nisko, Mr. Waldemar Ślusarczyk, Chairman of the City Council in Nisko, Mr. Marcin Folta and Vice-President of the City Council in Nisko, Mr. Marek Pachla. A bonfire was lit in the middle of the square, from which everyone could take the flame into their own home and carry it to others in the spirit of spreading peace.

The festive atmosphere was provided by colourful exhibition stands, where county entrepreneurs, handicraft creators, Rural Housewives Club (KGW), Environmental and Preventive Clubs and artists from art studios operating in Cultural Centres in Nowosielec and Zarzecze presented themselves. The beautiful and creative decorations captured attention with their form and fabulous colours. Hunters of unique items certainly did not leave empty-handed. The stands with delicious Christmas food were very popular, and above all the Christmas pierogi- making workshops, organized by KGW and GW "Koniczynki". The participants of the event were able to withstand the cold weather by helping themselves to hot pierogi and barszcz (beetroot soup).

We entered the Christmas atmosphere thanks to young vocalists from the County Cultural Center "Sokół". A concert of Christmas carols and pastorals was prepared especially for this occasion by Mrs. Alina Bytnar. Our irreplaceable County People's Band gave a concert, we also had the opportunity to see an unusual ceremonial spectacle called "Christmas Eve at the Walks". Humorous, but in a way moving, full of references to traditional folk rites of the Lasowice area, the theatrical staging moved us to an old hut filled with the bustle and hustle of pre-Christmas organizations. It allowed us to see how Christmas Eve was once spent. The spectacle was presented by the ritual group of Jamniczanki from Jamnica town. The performances on stage ended with the energetic concert "Olek Orkiestry" conducted by Aleksander Krzos. Beautiful Christmas songs flowed into the winter space of the city and was enjoyed by listeners who stayed until the end of our event. During the Sunday event, we gave out prizes to the winners of the competition for the most interesting Christmas Crib, organized every year by the National Centre for Culture (NCK) ‘‘Sokół’’. The atmosphere was fantastic during the whole event even though the cold nipped at the ears. We hope that next year’s event will be just as successful.
